We want everyone, on all of our sites across the Marlborough Sounds, Canterbury and Southern Lakes regions, to go home to their friends and family at the end of each day. That means our builders, our subcontractors, and you, as we work with you to build or renovate your home. Everyone involved with Bellbird Construction is expected to follow our health and safety guidelines.
HEALTH AND SAFETY AUDITS
We wear our SiteSafe accreditation as a badge of honour, and WorkSafe NZ independently checks our health and safety systems. We regularly attend health and safety workshops or conferences, and those who went relay what they’ve learned to the rest of the team at the next Toolbox Talk meeting.
As well as regular audits and spot inspections, we use the iAuditor reporting tool to process our health and safety paperwork to make sure each site is compliant and up to date
REGULAR TOOLBOX TALKS
Health and safety education is an ongoing process. The law and requirements are always being updated, and so it’s our job to stay ahead of the curb with regular health and safety training.
Toolbox Talks are a way to engage the whole Bellbird team with health and safety, and educate ourselves about what’s happening on site. Builders working on each of our projects around Canterbury are expected to share updates on their progress, any challenges they have come across and the solutions they have found.
As well as bringing a set of fresh eyes to each building project, our Toolbox Talks teach everyone about their accountability, and the need to speak up about health and safety if they see something on site.
EVERYONE IS ACCOUNTABLE
As the main contractor, Bellbird Construction is responsible for the health and safety of our subcontractors. That means we take an active role in inducting new employees, temporary workers, contractors and subcontractors when they arrive on site. We also educate them on our safety procedures and policies and make them aware of their responsibility to stay safe.

Chances are, you’ve already dealt with a wide variety of tradespeople in Canterbury. If you already have a subcontractor in mind to work on your home, let us know. We’re happy to meet with them and see if they would be a good fit with our team.
Because we regularly work with a number of approved tradies, if for whatever reason you’re not comfortable with our first choice in subcontractor, we can quickly find you a replacement, no questions asked.
At the end of the day, our Canterbury building and construction partners become representatives of Bellbird Construction when we work together on your home, and we want you to be comfortable about what’s happening at every stage along the way.
Insurance companies Southern Response, IAG and Vero have also assessed our work, our systems and processes and they have approved Bellbird Construction to handle Canterbury rebuild and renovation insurance projects. If your insurer is involved in your renovation or rebuild, let us know.
